Linux guide
Get started with Culprit
Culprit runs on Linux x86_64 desktops. Windows development is on hold. Release candidates are still being verified; published downloads follow release acceptance.
Choose the right download
Use the DEB on Debian 13 or Ubuntu 26.04. Use the RPM on Fedora 43 or 44 and openSUSE Tumbleweed or Leap 16.0. The AppImage uses your desktop’s GTK when compatible and includes a fallback for Ubuntu 24.04.
Mint 22.x and Pop OS 24.04 are AppImage targets awaiting desktop acceptance. Arch, CachyOS and EndeavourOS use the host toolkit. Ubuntu 22.04, Mint 21, Debian 12 and Pop OS 22.04 are outside this release’s supported range. ARM machines are not supported.
Install and open
Download from the Culprit downloads section. Compare sha256sum filename with the published checksum and verify the release signature before opening it.
For the DEB, open the file with your package installer, or run sudo apt install ./culprit_0.1.0_amd64.deb. For Fedora, run sudo dnf install ./culprit-0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm. On openSUSE, use sudo zypper install ./culprit-0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.
For the AppImage, move it to a permanent folder first. In file properties, allow execution, then open it. In a terminal, use chmod +x culprit_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage and ./culprit_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage. If FUSE is unavailable, run APPIMAGE_EXTRACT_AND_RUN=1 ./culprit_0.1.0_amd64.AppImage.
Your first seven days
The full trial starts without an account or card. Check-up summarizes current activity. Apps groups processes and supports Ctrl+F search. History begins recording when monitoring starts. Alerts and Settings control notifications and start at login.
Closing the window leaves monitoring running. Choose Quit Culprit in Settings or the tray menu to stop it. Sensor and fan features depend on what your hardware reports. Fan hardware control requires a separate supported add-on and explicit confirmation.
Buy and activate
When checkout is available, a purchase supplies a license key. Enter it in Settings. The live grouped view remains free after the trial; paid features include history views, alerts, dev servers, export and supported fan control. For a missing key or failed activation, contact noumenon-ai@gmail.com with your purchase reference. Never send your key or full card details.
Update or remove
There is no automatic updater. Quit Culprit, download the new package and install it using the same method. Keep the previous installer until the new version works. Local history remains on your computer.
Remove a DEB or RPM through your package manager. For an AppImage, use Remove Culprit from this computer in Settings before deleting the file. Removing history is a separate choice. See the data map for retained files. Ask support before downgrading if a new version changed the history format.
Runtime sources and notices
The AppImage includes dynamically linked GTK and other shared libraries. Their exact versions and notices ship with the image. The matching culprit_0.1.0_runtime-sources.tar.gz contains the source archives and replacement instructions. This download becomes available with the release and requires no purchase.
